KINE SNAP / SUPPORT
A little help.
Then back to it.
Get set up, capture your first thought, and take your notes with you.
Kine Snap is in development and is not yet available on the Mac App Store. These instructions describe the current version.
Your first capture
You’ll need macOS 26 or later and a Mac with Apple Silicon (M1 or later).
- Open Kine Snap from the menu bar. In setup, allow screen capture. For voice notes, also allow the microphone and prepare the language resources shown in the app.
- Press ⌥ + S and drag to capture a region of your screen.
- Drag on the captured image to add a numbered mark. Click the canvas, hold Space to speak, and release to finish the note. You can also type instead.
- Need another screenshot? Switch to the window you want and press the capture shortcut again to add it to the same task.
- Choose Finish & Copy. Kine Snap saves a Markdown document and its annotated PNG images, then copies the files together. Switch to your destination app and paste.
The capture and recording shortcuts can be changed in Settings. A note can refer to more than one mark or screenshot; use Shift-click to adjust your selection.
Common questions
Why can’t I take a screenshot?
In macOS System Settings, open Privacy & Security → Screen & System Audio Recording and allow Kine Snap. If macOS asks you to reopen the app, do so and try again. You can press Esc to cancel an unfinished capture selection.
If the shortcut conflicts with another app, choose a different capture shortcut in Kine Snap’s settings.
Why doesn’t holding Space start a voice note?
Check that microphone access is allowed in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone, and that the selected recognition language is ready in Kine Snap.
Click the editor’s canvas before holding your recording key. When a text field has focus, the key is used for typing. You can also click the microphone button to start recording and click again to stop. Granting permission or downloading a language does not start recording.
Do voice notes need an internet connection?
Transcription runs on your Mac using Apple’s on-device speech technology. If resources for your chosen language are missing, you can download them from within Kine Snap; macOS gets and manages these resources from Apple, so that step needs an internet connection.
When the resources are ready, transcription takes place locally. You can use typed notes without a microphone or speech resources.
What if transcription fails or I want to record again?
When recovery audio is available, choose the option to transcribe the original recording again. To speak again, choose to re-record, then hold your recording key or click the start control when you are ready. Preparing a re-recording does not turn on the microphone.
You can also enter text manually or delete the failed note. Resolve unfinished voice notes before choosing Finish & Copy. Canceling a prepared re-recording keeps the existing note.
Why are images missing after I paste or share?
New exports include a .md document and annotated .png images. Send the image files too: sending only the Markdown file does not upload its images.
The document’s image links point to the actual files on your Mac. The receiving app must support local file access or image attachments. Different apps handle multi-file paste differently; if necessary, attach the Markdown and PNG files from your library manually. Moving or deleting the original images can break local links.
Current exports are Markdown and PNG, not PDF. Older PDF documents can still be opened or copied from the library.
Where are my files, and how do I delete them?
Open Settings → General to open your library folder. By default it is in the app’s sandboxed Documents/Kine Snap folder. You can choose a different location there; changing locations does not move or delete files in the old library.
In the library, choose Move to Trash to remove a saved task and its related images. Clipboard references to those files will no longer work. Closing the editor keeps unfinished work as a private draft; explicitly discarding a task removes its unexported draft.
If folder access has expired, select the original folder again in Settings. The app does not silently switch your custom library to a different location.
Can I change the language or use a mouse button?
Choose English or Simplified Chinese in General settings. The interface language and speech recognition language are separate choices.
You can change the recording key or bind a mouse button in shortcut settings. Normal keyboard and mouse controls do not need Input Monitoring. The optional other-device-button feature requires your permission and a device that exposes a supported button to macOS; not every brand or model does. For a mouse or device binding, use Restore Space to return to the default recording key.
Still need a hand?
Email [email protected] with your macOS version, Kine Snap version, what you were trying to do, and the exact error message. For an external-button issue, include the device model.
Please remove private information from screenshots and documents before sending them. Don’t send passwords, access tokens, or sensitive recordings. Nothing is attached or sent automatically.
